Are you new to painting and just don't know where to begin?  Or have you finished your painting but something is not quite working for you and you don't know how to improve it?

I understand - all artists, including myself, have to start somewhere, and my biggest hurdle was not knowing what I didn't know!  There are no shortcuts, only hours on the brush, but it does help to have someone point you in the right direction!

Madeleine has created 3 different class formats to suit your skill levels and confidence.
  • Beginners Class (once a month):  For the absolute newbs, never painted before, or it was so long ago you can't remember.  These classes are structured tutorial classes to teach you the fundamentals of painting and composition.
  • Skills/Technique Class (once a month):  You already paint but need to learn more skills and techniques - You don't know what you don't know!  These classes are structured tutorial classes exploring techniques to further develop your painting practise.
  • General (weekly):  These classes are general mentoring sessions and are suitable for all skill levels.  Bring your own reference and receive feedback and instruction as you progress through your painting, to help you achieve great results. Sessions are grouped into 4 week blocks with each week focusing on the relevant stage of your painting (see below), however, for the more experienced this is not a rigid structure:
    • Week 1 - composition, blocking in, and back ground
    • Week 2 - mid ground, tonal and secondary players
    • Week 3 - Foreground, main player and focus
    • Week 4 - Critiquing, fixing, tweaking, and making it pop

Classes run for 2.5 hours.  You may arrive 15 minutes early in order to get yourself setup, and grab a cuppa - the tea and coffee facilities will be ready for you.

What medium do you teach?
I mentor attendees in the use of acrylic and oil paints.

What will we paint?
The style and painting topic is of your own choice.  Please bring reference photos, books, magazines, etc for your inspiration, and I can help guide you through.  Please DO NOT bring images of other artists work TO COPY - we can use their images for inspiration, but you need to paint from your own references.
